From 1939-1945 German officers also listened to speeches from civilians about how the laws of war didn’t apply to them. And then they participated in the Holocaust, starved millions of prisoners of war, destroyed villages and cities, and were defeated.

The speeches by Trump and Hegseth were tantamount to incitement—a genuinely dangerous effort to suborn the military’s oath and condition them for using violence against their fellow Americans, Kori Schake argues.

In a decision issued October 1, 2025, Reagan-appointed U.S. District Judge William Young includes a postcard sent to him saying “Trump has pardons and tanks ... what do you have?" He responds "Alone, I have nothing but my sense of duty. Together, We the People ... have our magnificent Constitution."

I hope it's clear to everyone now that Trump really is going for it - he's trying to become a dictator. I don't know if he'll succeed, but he's working to install himself as an autocrat unaccountable to voters. And he's weaponizing the military against Americans who oppose him as part of that effort

Donald Trump waxes poetic about his redecoration of the Oval Office. Actually the ornaments are made by a company in Taiwan of polyurethane and have been spray painted gold. He's deluding himself about this, just like everything else.

Trump každý den dělá něco protidemokratického nebo korupčního, a Nejvyšší soud mu jde na ruku. Posílá armádu do měst vedených Demokraty, trestně stíhá své politické odpůrce Zastaví ho něco? Bojím se, že ne…

Trump just ordered the military into Portland, and he’s giving them the green light to use lethal force on American citizens. Authoritarianism is an abstract concept but Trump is making its impacts real and tangible. Let’s be real about it: This is the beginning of dictatorship in America.

I feel like this needs to be said, as I don’t feel many Americans get this: THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!! No, not even for authoritarian leaders in nominally democratic regimes. In Hungary, Poland, even Turkey*, authoritarian leaders do/did not regularly send the military into its peaceful cities!

Troops to Portland? Illegal and absurd. But the absurdity is the point. Trump policy is to ignore real threats to US security coming from abroad and use the armed forces to pursue imaginary threats from within, thereby creating an atmosphere suitable for personal rule. (1/2)

Portland is not "war ravaged." This is delusional and dangerous. Sending troops into American cities doesn't make our communities safer — it just stokes fear and stirs up chaos. Trump is plunging further into authoritarianism every single day.
