Peruvian independent media outlet La Encerrona has identified the Israeli soldier being investigated for genocide in Peru as Adi Karni, from the 603rd Batallion, adding he might still be in Peru.

The law firm representing the @hindrajabfoundation.be in Peru has added some clarity: the charge against the Israeli soldier in Peru is indeed genocide. The Peruvian Office of the DA has opened an investigation

The key problem is that much of the discourse on unlawful, condemnable violence is operating as if a genocide killing an estimated 100,000 people, injuring 150,000 and starving 2 million is *not* unlawful or condemnable

Ironically, while states don’t have a “right to exist” under international law, peoples under foreign domination do absolutely have an unquestionable right to declare themselves free from said domination. So… Free Palestine.

Some initial thoughts on this case, since, you know… I’m Peruvian. 🧵 1) There’s domestic debate as to whether Peruvian Criminal Law regulates “pure” universal jurisdiction as opposed to an aut desere aut judicare (“extradite or prosecute”) obligation.

It’s nice to see @martinshaw.bsky.social @drmelob.bsky.social @dirkmoses.bsky.social and @vukusiciva.bsky.social get the recognition they deserve as the top names in the field. Academia sometimes is too far away from the mainstream searchlights and we need people listening to top experts like them
