I don't want to get all Chesterton's Fence here, but if you don't understand that a "microscopic snail" is an indicator species that's protected for the health of the entire ecosystem, you probably shouldn't be forming "good relationships" with developers

Exclusive: Chancellor says 20,000 homes were being held up due to āsome snails that are a protected species or somethingā

Our latest research shows spot-on flea treatments on dogs are released into water when dogs swim even 28 days after treatment - in contrast to the label which suggests dogs can safely swim 48 h after treatment.

Dogs pollute water with pesticides even weeks after flea treatment
When dogs given spot treatments for fleas go swimming, they release levels of pesticides dangerous to aquatic life for at least a month after the treatment

This planning bill sounds frightening and Iām struggling to see how it connects with biodiversity net gain in England. More generally, Iām struggling to see what this Labour govt actually stands for. Nature restoration was an important part of their manifesto.

Labourās great nature sellout is the worst attack on Englandās ecosystems Iāve seen in my lifetime | George Monbiot
The horrifying planning bill, which rips up environmental protections, was drafted with CEOs in mind. We know because Keir Starmer told us, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill begins the next step in its passage through parliament. I cannot stress enough how disastrous this would be for UK wildlife. We are asking all supporters to contact their MPs to ask them to support key amendments. ā„ļøš¦

The UK Government promised a planning system that works for people & nature. But as it stands, this Bill risks fast-tracking natureās destruction. Weāve joined others calling for urgent change. Nature mustn't be written out of our future. šØ

Astonishingly fast germination of these Cycas panzhihuaensis seeds, less than a week! Hoping they put out a couple of leaves this growing season.

. Eurasian tree sparrow (_Passer montanus_). Watercolour on paper-backed silk, 106 Ć 116 mm. This piece from 2023 was the first time I finally tried painting on silk. I'll repost an old XTwitter thread on the process later. The bird's proportions bother me slightly now, but hey ho.
