To everyone who's told me they're sad that the Puffin Classics range is ending after eight titles (four of them mine!) - all i can suggest is - write in and tell Puffin! Tell them you want more! It can't hurt to let them know that there's a keen readership!

As someone who has read this for the first time recently, Its very interesting what Darvill-Evans can do with the knowledge from editing the range. Also, it's a great book with an interesting setup however the villain is mediocre. Annoyingly, I had Daak's return spoiled by the legal page

The guidelines at the back are the best part of the book and the most interesting.

The unexpected return of fan-favourite frighteningly aggressive and horribly beweaponed Dalek-killer—Ace! Abslom Daak also appears. Ish. What is it with on-the-page companions being abruptly aged-up? Sharon, Sam, and here in between, Space Ace. She’s the most successful of the three. Ish.

It’s not the worst New Adventure, because it’s not the least interesting. It’s not good, though. It throws in an absolute load of ideas and some of them grabbed me – I go for a bit of dark religion, but even so, when it tries to cram in All The Worst Things Ever, it’s just too much.

Started my read through of all the Virgin New adventures book inspired by @2broad2deeppod.bsky.social and just finished the first one Timewyrm: Genesis by John Peel!

I was very curious to see what @2broad2deeppod.bsky.social made of Transit, & they delivered a very fair take! I would have been 12 when I read this, & really hated it. Often wondered if it deserves a re-read as an adult. Really looking fwd to the podcast tackling my FAVE NA next as well!!

It's an absolute gift of a book, so full of effortless world-building, creating an environment it'd be a joy to play in... and I did!

This is a brilliant book and I will fight any of you who suggest it's puerile or "teenage". Embracing the possibilities of Doctor Who novels and making a great stab at broadening Who's scope to embrace Afro-Futurism, and lovely incidental details here and there like samurai Ice Warriors.

Rarely to I agree with a podcast as much as @2broad2deeppod.bsky.social with @docoho44.bsky.social on Love & War! Totally agree with their takes on the good & bad of this novel! And I agree about the NA's doing very well in creating a coherent "future history" to play in. Very enjoyable, guys!
