If you get into the weeds, aka 'the comments' about Doctor Who at present, you can find a lot of weird thoughts and interpretations. Some innocent, some not so. And the one that makes me laugh every time is basically this: 'The BBC is only putting out a tender to make the fans happy...' Wow.

Putting a show out to tender isn't cancelling a show. I know some folk want Doctor Who to be cancelled, but the only thing that is actually cancelled is the Xmas ep. Outside of that, the tender shows a desire to press on which is pretty much the opposite of cancelling something.

Watching a YouTube video where the guy, with a straight face, says Doctor Who won't return for a decade 'because no one wants the part'. You just have to laugh at arseclowns like that. My UK friends could toss a rock out their window and hit an actor who'd kill for the role. No question in my mind.

Another thing that's already started is the mental gymnastics of those who have decided Billie is absolutely the 16th Doctor even though it's pretty clear she would have only done the Xmas Special (if that), and it's highly unlikely they'd have wasted an entire incarnation appearing in one show.

The tale that some YouTubers come up with, every 6 months or so, that Disney is about to randomly de-canonise the Star Wars sequels is cut from the exact same cloth as the belief that the BBC will use the current Doctor Who hiatus to rewind the show back to Capaldi. Neither is going to happen.

Very nervous about recommending this one, I will say that upfront! I think it's a very interesting novel, and nothing like what surrounds it in the range, but you've absolutely got to knuckle down and really *read* it. This isn't skipping through an Uncle Terrance page turner by any stretch.

If The Reality War wanted to do something interesting, it should have ended with Ncuti flying off with a smile on his face, leaving the audience to think, 'Wait! What? But he's done! What does this mean?' and that would have actually kickstarted more theories than Billie's mug appearing.

I wonder if the usual suspects who revel and delight and dance a jig when something like Masters of the Universe underperforms or Doctor Who goes on hiatus, ever stop and think... "Wait, why am I *like* this?" I guess it would involve self-awareness. Interesting to ponder.

RTD in Doctor Who Magazine #624 - Twelve months-a-waiting! Next December, I'll be here to trumpet and toot about the 2026 Christmas Special. It contains these three words. "Bafflers," "Winternox" and "village."

Far more surprising than the Xmas special being dumped yesterday (which we'd already discussed at length on the podcast 1.5 weeks earlier), is the way a massive amount of people have bought into, 'It's the Wilderness Years!' with an eye on this being a very, very long-term scenario.

The timing for our Gatwa-era cold take on June 28 couldn't be any better right now. Suffice to say, the events of the past 12hrs will bleed into that, and also the episode in general, listener comments, etc, as we sit back and take stock of what is a big Doctor Who story.

Our May 31 ep has a discussion around the likelihood of the Xmas ep not happening. @davidkitchen.bsky.social suggested the announcement of a new partner could be what stopped Xmas going ahead. In the end it was something close; the announcement of going to tender. variety.com/2026/tv/glob...

A lot of people making predictions but, no, the next step isn't for MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE to drive Amazon Prime subs - because it won't be sitting on there for everyone to look at. It'll be a rental first. Rentals are the next revenue stream for it. No subscription required.

I've noticed when people want to be a bit of a deep-cut wanker about Masters of the Universe they'll decry the new movie wasn't based on He-Man's 'original' version. Uh, yeah dudes, that's because that only existed in a handful of minicomics, not hundreds of cartoon eps on TV.

Saw this with my 15 y/o daughter, who is a fan of the cartoons.It was a faithful, and tongue-in-cheek, just the right side of piss-take (e.g. Fisto). There's jokes, action, & character moments. In our sceening, a small girl was encouraging He-Man to "stab skeletor with the sword!"

'They're mocking He-Man...' I saw a man-child whining as if He-Man is some sort of very serious and sacred text. At heart it's a jokey kids cartoon that's quite ridiculous. The movie giving a nod and a wink, 'Yes, we know it's crazy, so let's have FUN with it...' was 100% the right tone to take.

24hrs on from Masters of the Universe, I've listened back to our pod (thedwshow.net/2026/06/06/b...) and I think it's a solid hot take. A couple more things I'd like to add, but nothing earth shattering. I also think these two were great casting and a sequel would just zing along.
