Today I broke the spotted flycatcher record with 15 different birds spotted in a 4 km walk. I won't post them all, but I did see 2 adults with juveniles in tow. #birds

It's so hard to take a decent picture of a swift in flight. My efforts today yielded a couple of very distant shots, one blurry close-up & a load of discards. #birds

It wasn't until I transferred this morning's pics to my laptop that I realised that's a house martin in the air & not another barn swallow. #birds

We started off with 4 barn swallows perched on the fence, and within a few seconds there were seven of them. #birds

The barn swallows really seem to love perching on this stretch of fence: this is the 3rd time I've seen them there this week. #birds

It must've been a hell of a breeding year for goldfinches in San Pedro de Alcántara, because there are loads of juveniles about. #birds

Google suggests these may be young mullet. Whatever they are, there were several frenzied mini-shoals like these on the surface near the mouth of the extremely turbid River Guadaiza, presumably feeding on something I couldn't see below the surface.

The old 1970s apartment blocks at the mouth of the River Guadaiza are chock-a-block with house martin nests, so the river is swarming with little blck & white acrobats. #birds

Today's zitting cisticola was in a little gap in the long dry grass in one of the undeveloped plots of land near our apartment. Pictures taken through a chain link fence, which explains the blurry bits. #birds

This morning I got my first (albeit distant) sighting this week of the male kestrel that has nested in the building down the road from our apartment in San Pedro de Alcántara for the last 2 years. #birds
