I'm pretty sure that #GABRIELLE is an annular hurricane right about now. Look at that huge eye! The storm has probably peaked about now and will gradually start to weaken as it encounters higher wind shear and cooler waters, though its annular structure may slow its rate of weakening.

If this is what a tropical storm looks like in September 2025, that's pretty sad. Sure, there's a strong low-level circulation, but there's no convection, only strong upper-level SW winds. Did I mention that this is close to DMAX?

In my view the United States is unlikely to be a functional democracy by the end of next year. This has major implications for Canada.

The drought has been so pronounced that the effects are discernible in satellite imagery. Here is a comparison with mid September last year. Note the yellow/brown agricultural lands compared to generally greener ones a year prior.

Invest #91L is currently struggling to maintain convection, however, it appears that a weak CCKW is moving through the Atlantic starting today and over the next couple days, which might help it get together. If it doesn't develop in the next 3 or days, I would say that it won't develop at all.

The ECCC precipitation summary chart for the summer (June, July and August) shows significant areas with rainfalls less than half of normal on either side of the Bay of Fundy and Bay of Chaleur.

Looking at the African tropical wave this afternoon. It looks like it may be building a low-level centre (marked with a red L), though at this stage it's not clear to me whether this is just a transient mesoscale low or if this will become the actual centre of rotation.

Just emptied 57.6mm from my gauge! The automatic stations from the CB mesonet show a swath of tropical rainfalls (40-80mm) from Halifax to Sydney. Unfortunately the Annapolis Valley only had a few mm. BTW, the rainfall chart from the EU model I posted yesterday did well predicting this pattern.

A week later, what actually happened? *The large-scale weather pattern verified. *The TS (red circle) formed, but remained too weak to phase with the trough (indigo line), resulting in it tracking further east. Result? No TC, but beneficial trop moisture and rains for NS. #NSwx #NBwx #PEwx #NLwx

Hurricane Erin passes well south of Nova Scotia Friday. High cloud will reach southern areas, but no rain. Breezy winds possible along the Atlantic coast (40-70km/h), but strong winds remain offshore. High swells (3m) breaking along the Atlantic coast create dangerous surf and rip currents.

I'm not convinced this is going to verify, but that eye shown in the 18Z GFS for Thursday afternoon is massive. You could fit the entirety of Prince Edward Island into it! (I think the structure shown in the HAFSA/B models is more likely to verify.) #ERIN

Given what the models are showing, the U.S. hurricane centre is being very bullish with that dry wave in the tropical Atlantic, with a 70% chance of development over 7 days. The GFS really likes it, the Euro sort of, and the CMC does nothing with it. I'll keep an eye on it. #HurricaneSeason

For a 90-95 knot Category 2 hurricane, a barometric pressure of 941 mbar in the eye is extremely low. That's because #ERIN has a massive windfield. This will make the storm's winds slow to strengthen or weaken, but means that it's producing a huge area of rough seas.
