In 2019, Respect began implementing the Safe & Together model, an internationally recognised set of tools and interventions to help child protection professionals improve their response to domestic abuse.

Domestic abuse is a workplace issue. One in four employees across the UK will be affected by domestic abuse in their lifetime, meaning that virtually every workplace will have both victim-survivors and perpetrators of abuse.

The next milestone we're celebrating this #16Days as we mark Respect's 25 years of tackling domestic abuse is the launch of the Make a Change (MaC) programme in 2018.

A key milestone in our influencing work was ahead of the 2024 General Election when Respect launched its first manifesto, ‘‘Stopping Domestic Abuse.’’ We challenged the new government to make a pledge to stop perpetrators & hold them to account. Read our manifesto: https://ow.ly/M01S50XCGiz

For 16 Days of Activism, we are looking back at the 25 years of action we’ve taken to tackle gender-based violence and highlight some of our key milestones.

First established in 2015 by Respect, @safelives.bsky.social and @socialfinance.bsky.social, @drivepartnership.bsky.social was founded on a shared ambition to break the cycle of domestic abuse by challenging and changing the behaviour of those causing harm and supporting victim-survivors.

Online spaces can shape and impact how individuals see themselves but also how they see others. Not all online spaces are safe, and what happens when harmful ideas around gender, power and relationships are being promoted?

Since 2012, the Respect Young People’s Service (RYPS) has been working to tackle a critical issue that often goes unspoken: violence and abuse involving young people aged 8-18, also known within Respect as CAPVA (Child and Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse).

Congratulations to @jessasatomp.bsky.social on her appointment as Violence Against Women and Girls Adviser to the Department of Health & Social Care 👏 Reform of the NHS response is urgently needed and we hope this marks the start of much more collaboration between the DHSC and the VAWG sector.

The next milestone in our reflections on 25 years of Respect this #16Days is the first edition of the Respect Standard, published in 2008. A new iteration of standards for working with perpetrators of domestic abuse to ensure safe practice, inspired by the work of the National Practitioners Network.

This year Respect is celebrating its 25th anniversary. For 16 Days of Activism, we are looking back at the 25 years of action we’ve taken to tackle gender-based violence and highlight some of our key milestones. In 2004, the national helpline for domestic abuse perpetrators was launched.

In this week's budget, there were some positive steps for women, but more still needs to be done. For example, single mothers fleeing perpetrators of domestic abuse will still feel the pressure of the benefit cap and face poverty, or be driven back to the perpetrator.

This 16 Days of Activism, we will be sharing some of the key milestones and moments that have happened along the way... In 2003 the first Respect Newsletter was published. Initially set to go out six-monthly, then quarterly and now monthly with over 3k subscribers.
