A government serious about halving VAWG must not abandon survivors seeking asylum. VAWG is a national emergency which can only be tackled by including ALL women. Violence doesn’t stop at the border and neither should our compassion and support for survivors.

While action on perpetrators is welcome, this level of funding must matched for services that provide survivors life-changing and life-saving support. We need urgent action to address the funding crisis in frontline services supporting women and children.

Ending Violence Against Women and Girls is a major priority of the Government's and of mine. I was pleased to meet with people from the @evawuk.bsky.social at their New Paths to Prevention event today - focussed on engaging more boys and men in the campaign to end violence against women and girls.

The media plays a huge role in shaping attitudes and journalists can be key players in the movement to end VAWG. But there is still so much to do to end the poor and harmful practice we see ⤵️

NEW: Home Affairs Committee finds lack of coordinated, strategic funding approach is jeopardising work to end violence against women. Echoing specialist VAWG orgs, the commitee calls for 3-5 year funding settlements and ring-fenced funding for specialist services led by and for marginalised women.

We welcome the Leveson Review’s wide-reaching recommendations to address the Crown Courts crisis. Extended delays to victims’ cases have not only left rape survivors without access to justice but caused them considerable harm and suffering. Urgent change is needed

Healthcare workers are often the first, and only, point of contact for victims of abuse. It is essential they are equipped to identify, signpost and safeguard victims who need support. As this report shows, the consequences of inaction can be serious harm, including death.
