@everyone I am lucky enough to have lived through a long period of relative peace, economic expansion, and meteoric technological advancement. I had an idyllic childhood, and life so far. Today, for the first time, I feel grief for the US. Our country has an incurable condition and we're losing her.

Today:

@kylec.bsky.social The United States are not "united" when taken one at a time. Any practitioner of semantics should be able to argue this; a smart judge will agree; the Supreme Court will just prove how dumb they are if they defy it.

I feel for federal employees who've been without work. They'll get back pay now, thankfully. But people like me will never get back premiums paid into a black hole, nor get any benefit from the US health system. People will forego coverage and many will die. Mad doesn't begin to describe.

We saw a dozen or more emergency vehicles racing westward on I-70 around 12:30 Wednesday. First thought, what? Next, ICE? How absolutely gut-wrenching that, "School Shooting" replaced our guess with reality. Then, right after that, Kirk. This is not real life; make it stop.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

What about a banking or Wall Street walkout...?

A defining policy battle is about to come to a head in this country. The Republican budget will force everyone - especially Congress and the White House - to make plain whether they are prepared to harm the rest of us in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest.
