The 61 Multilateral Peace Operations active in 2024 were located in: 👉Sub-Saharan Africa (21), 👉Europe (19), 👉Middle East and North Africa (14), 👉Americas (4) 👉Asia and Oceania (3) Operations are particularly an African affair in personnel numbers, less in mission numbers. SIPRI data out now!

2) Without a clear strategy for Syria, there is a risk that a power vacuum or renewed political, ethnic or sectarian tensions will become a source of renewed conflict, which may lead to the further destabilisation of the region at large.

In 2017 we developed scenarios for Syria in 2019, that are still relevant today: bit.ly/3D7KZsk Let's hope for a Fragile Peace-ish scenario. Two main conclusions: 1) The root causes of conflict in Syria have been the lack of inclusive governance and equal opportunities.
