Peaceful protest doesn't threaten democracy. It's one of the few ways we can challenge people with money, power & media on their side. Australia's anti-protest laws have gone too far. Every law that criminalises peaceful dissent should be repealed. No govt should be afraid of its people speaking.

There was a lovely community gathering to say farewell to Neil Barrett today. Neil was a key figure in FoE's early days as an organiser, writer, the Shareholders for Social Responsibility group, & playing a key role in the anti nuclear bike rides to Canberra.

According to British tradition, the sweet pea, Lathyrus odoratus, is the final birth flower of July. In the language of flowers it symbolises “departure” echoing Keats: “Here are sweet peas, on tip-toe for a flight.” A fitting flower as the summer holidays begin.

I certainly hope I don’t know anyone who will be voting for them. I’m on the other side of the fence. I want people to be lifted up. We can have wealthy, but we really shouldn’t have poor or struggling. Need to turn politics around to work FOR the world that needs so much. Not corporations.

Honeysuckle, another birth flower for those born in the month of June, is also called woodbine, hold-me-tight, and fairy trumpets. Its sweetly scented blooms and twining stems symbolise love and fidelity, and its fragrance is said to bring dreams of true love.
