Always try get your ducks in a row, especially if they are the critically endangered Marbled Teal. In a 2020 census, Spain counted only 74 pairs, compare that to being the most abundant breeding Anatidae (ducks, geese & swans) in the early 20th century! Great to see 24 at #ElHondo recently. #birds

By this time in CA, the rice has been eaten and the geese are all hitting the new veg growth, high in nitrogen, before winging it north. As capital breeders, they bring all the proteins and lipids with them to the Arctic, because there's not much to eat when they get there and start laying eggs
