We are in for an era on campuses where if conservative activists don’t get their way, they’ll run crying to Twitter in the hopes of getting politicians to force schools to accommodate them. It’s not about free speech, it’s about the ability to exert their will over others.

Some problems have simple solutions. This new “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” is one. The answer is simply saying no. Simple does not mean easy. But Brown, Dartmouth, MIT, Vanderbilt, Univ of AZ, UPenn, USC, UT Austin & UVA must understand what they’ll lose if they sign on.

I can ignore a ton of spelling errors on the internet for a variety of reasons. But the phrases "for sell" (for sale) and "my __hall" (haul) are infuriating. This isn't some regional thing, I'm seeing them everyfuckinwhere these days.

Fun fact, during an undergrad carbonate reefs field trip to the Permian basin in west TX/NM, we checked out an outcrop where the overwhelming smell of raw petroleum seepage almost made me vomit. No visible production in the area, just natural seeping.
