I'm so glad someone else had the same thoughts about D:BH that I have had in the last month or so, and I really need to write a proper essay about it myself. The crux of it is that while games do have to sometimes have black and white choices - to push that into material so nuanced is irresponsible.

i think this article cuts to the heart of why i feel so uncomfortable around the idea of "cozy" or "wholesome" games. there's a whole ideological apparatus that surrounds them, as with any genre. they aren't escaping anything. :(

Writing this one made me realize I don’t think a lot of typical features of Wholesome or Cozy games are made for individuals like me. I don’t really associate fishing, buying & managing property and being a vendor cozy, for instance.
