Taking a break from our nation's deep troubles... the Shakey's Pizza at Olympic/San Vicente/Fairfax has closed. Site will be redeveloped. Into what? I'm hoping they build a building there rather than turn the site into another street. That intersection has enough streets as it is!

I'm watching the movie Big Eyes on KCET right now. They're in court, having a paint-off, to prove who is the real artist. Feels like a Mr. Show sketch. I love it.

My parents' generation experienced the Super Bowl like this: A) it didn't exist; then, B) it was a wacky new thing; then, C) it became an essential part of our lives. The Pop-Tart Bowl is somewhere between B and C right now.

A friend gave us Phil Spector's Christmas Album. So generous! And it's all the excuse I need to recount my story about meeting Phil Spector at a Christmas party in 1995.

Tonight, I did the best Caroling of my life. If you were there, you heard it: each "la" that I sang in "Fa la la la la, la la la la!" got it its own moment. And each one of those "la's" now lives on in the memories of those caroled to.
