A lot to say about this, but one thing is that the Professor in question was a lecturer, and thus did not have tenure. The destruction of academic freedom is inextricably linked to the loss of worker protection in the university.

Like, lots of presidents get sued, and lots of presidents make sweeping claims. But when Trump says he's standing up for religious freedom, seems relevant that he's also being sued by *many* entire religious denominations who alleged he is, in fact, actively infringing on their religious freedom.

BTW, this a buried detail in here, but: it's actually kind of a huge deal that at least 55 faith-based organizations — including 15 *entire religious denominations* — have already sued the Trump administration in its first year. Not sure there's much precedent for that.
