3 films that forever broke the brains of nerdom for the absolute worst: THE LAST JEDI, GHOSTBUSTERS '16, & MOS. To that point I hadn't seen so many ppl purposefully miss the point of a film as they did with MOS - an absolutely belligerent refusal to engage in what the film was doing & saying.

Oh shit why didn't anyone tell me IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT was available for streaming!?

The ongoing discussion on nostalgia & how its warped, weaponized, & commercialized really interests me. My very deep & nuanced opinion is: Indulging in nostalgia is fine, actually. The key is just being normal about it. Which is the key to everything, really. Just be normal about it.

Can't stop thinking about TOM'S CROSSING. An absolute mammoth undertaking that is at times so indulgent it beggars belief, yet it's so rich in detail, character, & theme you're never not utterly enthralled. Staggering in scope & execution.

Listening to the Dave Baxter commentary on the new Arrow 4K of TMNT '90 and he said the Laird/Lawson run of the comic was his favorite. And I said "thank you!" out loud, lol. Criminally slept on run.

Literally most of them, lol. Jaws, Gremlins, Alien & Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, Predator, the Die Hards & Lethal Weapons (parents took me to see 4 when it came out. I was 9)...saw all of that before I was 10.

Nothing has been cooler about getting back into wrestling this year with AEW and going from kinda hating Jon Moxley to finding him to be the heart & soul of the company. World's End really brought it all home for me.

I know quote skeeting ppl's (we still call it that right?) bad movie takes to dunk on is generally frowned upon here & I respect that, I really do! But sometimes, man... Sometimes I just wanna drop one of these at least cuz christ almighty some of these takes.

GREMLINS are a chaotic antidote to man's hubris, irresponsibility, & entitlement. Rand Peltzer feels entitled to buy Gizmo just because he wants to despite being told no. Billy doesn't take the rules seriously. Rand wants to make a business out of Mogwai. The teacher wants to experiment on them.

On this Christmas night, remember that Gremlins hate landlords.

ELF is a genuinely cute and funny low stakes holiday comedy that I totallysee the continued love for...until it becomes a generic "we have to save Christmas!" story during the last act. I check out immediately at that point.

Alls I'm saying is a movie with an opening shot like this can't be bad. I will forever maintain TMNT III is better than Secret of the Ooze. It tells more of a story, with more emotional weight & earnestness. Yea the turtle suits are a major downgrade, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Movies that came out around Christmas or that I first saw around Christmas are all Christmas movies. Thems the rules. So many movies I strongly associate with the holiday have nothing to do with it. Like, Fellowship of the Ring gets me more in the spirit than 90% of actual Christmas movies.

I remember it being met with a largely negative reactions when it came out, but I watched the Illumination Grinch movie on a whim and...really enjoyed it? Beautifully animated, good natured, and sweet.

One of my favorite watches in a while. A melancholic rust belt neo-noir that steadily walks into fatalistic tragedy. Walken has rarely been better as the all too human villain, Brad Sr. A new favorite, but a total gut-punch. That Patrick Leonard score, too. Urgh, so good.

Still thinking about this. All of the close-ups Kubrick uses REALLY elevate the performances on the big screen in ways I wasn't expecting. Nicholson took on an layer of intimidation I hadn't felt before. For a performance sometimes criticized as too broad, god does he feel dangerous.
