Those claims for the virtues of massive stadiums are made all over the world. And they just about never stack up.

Looked very good. I guess my only quibble would be every stand at Adelaide oval named after men. This, a result I guess of mostly men having performed heroics there - from the Chappels to Bradman etc - but something for them to look at down the track.

Funnily enough, I had a close look at that very thing on Thursday evening, speaking at a function at Adelaide Oval and staying afterwards at the Oval Hotel, which allowed me to have breakfast overlooking the field. It did look quietly impressive. Amazing they have kept a strip of grass on one side!

In terms of getting political support from the mob for insane stadium expenditure, it is sport that holds the cards.

Polling suggests splits between geography and demographics. Tassie deserves a team, but the stadium proposal and condition from the AFL are ludicrous. What other organisation can hold a state government hostage for such misguided expenditure? It makes no economic or geographic sense.
