The results of the use of coloured filters for black and white film or digital filters when changing to monochrome from a colour photograph. Purple being close to the blue end of the spectrum goes lighter. Red, the skin and hair. Not much green to filter so no overall change.

A prime example of a set designed for black and white film and later aired on TV. Also some of the B&W film cameras had coloured filters on them for different situations. The Munsters set. Not everything is as you would expect.

A lot of vintage photography backgrounds were purple. Photographic plates & films were "orthochromatic," meaning they were primarily sensitive to blue & ultraviolet light & almost blind to red light. Purple & violet being on the blue end of the spectrum, registered well & gave a pleasing tone.

It's Mothers Day and all is good here. Homemade cards are on the window. Breakfasts had and a walk in the woods will be done as their mother would have liked.
