A monster Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), Aberdeenshire. Its common name honours David Douglas, the Scottish botanist who sent the first Douglas-fir seeds from the Pacific Northwest to Scotland in 1826. Man for scale 😁

The Bata Shoe 👠 Museum in Toronto has an exhibit on now that I’d love to see, “Unearthing Vindolanda: Footwear from the Edge of the Roman Empire.” Love that Beth Greene (my Tar Heel sister!) is co-curating the 1000s of leather sandals (and baby shoes) from the fort.

Rehabilitation of the Dandelion! No other plant in the Netherlands attracts as many bee species: 107. In early spring, when nothing else is blooming, it is simply there. Meadow bird chicks that have just hatched depend on the insects that are drawn to dandelions. No dandelion, no insect, no chick.

Excellent. Now, please use "GB Energy" investment £ - if that's not just a PR stunt - to buy the Ardersier wind turbine manufacture plan you've just blocked (for a clearly spurious reason). We've had enough of you blocking projects and closing plants in Scotland, after pledging to invest in them.

I love how some pieces of Glasgow graffiti become almost iconic, such as this sadly ignored cri de coeur in the old Oatlands. One pal even had it stencilled onto a T-shirt. I could fair murder a bag of pakora...
