The Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) is the largest octopus species, with a mantle length of at least 60 cm. Adults can weigh over 50 kg, but the largest recorded specimen weighed in at 272 kg!

Explorations of the Shadow Leviathan for Subnautica: Below Zero. It had a more vertebrate-inspired face for a time, before we settled for the invertebrate maw. One was inspired by a species of anglerfish that (apparently) has a set of glowing organs INSIDE its mouth.

Vampire squids (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) don't really live up to their name. They aren't squids, and they don't hunt, let alone suck blood. But they are vampire-like in their longevity! They are thought to be able to live up to 10 years, longer than almost any other cephalopod!

Diamondback Squids (Thysanoteuthis rhombus) lay their eggs in these giant coils. They are made up of a cylinder of mucous with two threads of eggs wound around it. The egg masses have a length of .6 to 1.8 m with a diameter of 11 to 30 cm and can contain 35,000 to 75,000 eggs.
