Six cross-disciplinary teams have won funding in the 1st year of #Scialog: Neurobiology and Changing Ecosystems, cosponsored with The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group @alleninstitute.org, the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation, and @kavlifoundation.bsky.social.

Individual-level racism would be DOGE saying: "Oh, here's a Black PI. Let's terminate that one." There isn't enough evidence to claim that. Instead, it appears to be structural. Women and Black investigators disproportionately study topics like STEM education that were cut at higher rates. See:

And it's not just the PIs. Our terminated grant had deep investments in under resourced communities. It matters who does science and how it is done.

Critical yet often overlooked is that NOAA's Oceanic and Atmospheric Research maintains vital long-term monitoring programs like the CO₂ Keeling Curve that, while essential, often struggle for funding from agencies like NSF that prioritize hypothesis-driven research over sustained observation.
