Rate my battlestation! This is a Sony Anycast Station AWS-G500HD from 2007. It's essentially a Sony luggable PIII 933Mhz PC that runs Linux 2.4.20 with a ton of FPGAs to do the heavy lifting of a video switcher. Plus glorious physical buttons, faders, dials, and removable keyboard. And a jog wheel.

FREE! Sony PWW-EX1 camera (broken). I used this camera as a live SDI source but it doesn't output a valid SDI signal now. Other damage: broken plastics, LCD doesn't work. It does power on, menus/controls work, you get a picture/audio in the viewfinder. I can post it for the cost it takes to ship.

I remember when the entire operating system for my PC totalled 2.4Mb on two 1.2 Mb 5.25" floppies. Now my phone needs to download 1300Mb to update itself. 🤯

The #Quantel EM2077-76 Backstore 2. a later revision card for the Quantel Graphic Paintbox 2, 384 32mbit DRAMS for a total of 1.5Gb memory, it dates from around 1996/1997. The GPB2 didn't do video graphics it did print graphics in CMYK and needed a LOT of memory!

After resurrecting the Graphic Paintbox 2 at the weekend we now have a known global list of 24 working Quantel Paintboxes. An amazing achievement by the Quantel community! Notable omissions though are the Quantel Editbox and Henry, several do exist but unfortunately are non-working at this point.

Helping out a friend in Cologne fixing their #Quantel Graphic Paintbox 2. It has been broken for over 11 years! 😲 Quantel only ever sold 38 of these machines so it is a real privilege to see one running.

How many out there remember making video graphics on the Quantel DPB-7001 Digital Paint Box?

Another #Quantel project being worked on an interface for the Quantel Tablet/Keyboard. This vampires the data from the tablet and exposes it as a Windows HID. As the project progresses it should allow modern peripherals to work on a real Quantel Paintbox. Big thanks to MerseyViking for the work👍

#Quantel Remote MO was a 1U rackmount box that contained a Snetcom board and a Sony MO drive. It boots over the Picturenet network and allows all Picturenet users access to the MO drive. Snetcom is also used inside Paintbox, Hal, Henry etc as the network interface. This particular one is from 1997.

There are video cables and then there are #Quantel Digital 422 Video cables 🤘

The #Quantel Paintbox in the early 1990s had a built in feature called VERIFY, it would write data into one of the stores and then manipulate it using the hardware and then read back a checksum of the result. If it matched it passed VERIFY. This test is running on a Quantel Harriet from March 1993.

Looks like someone has changed the MANCHESTER_ENVIRONMENT_MAP setting to SIMPSONS_TITLES_CLOUDS.BMP

A friend is currently working on their #Quantel Henry Infinity. The big guns from Quantel in the late 1999s. This would have set you back 1/2 million pounds 😱

There is a lot going on here; 1 Quantel Harriet, 1 Quantel Paintbox Express, 1 Quantel Ramcorder, 1 Windows XP PC with a Zeon X3230 CPU and a Windows 98 PC with a 1.4Ghz Tualatin and Roland SC-55 mk2 SoundCanvas. Oh and the Sony HD video printer 😜

It's well into the crazy year of 2025 and i do have to remind myself that way back in the late 1980s when i read about this unicorn of a machine called the #Quantel Paintbox i would not have believed i would have the opportunity to own one of them 30+ years later.

After months of hatefully looking at it i finally have started working on the #Quantel HAL and Dylan again. There's multiple faults but first to be fixed has to be the Dylan disk array. Been working out out why i often get disk timeouts which ultimately take the array offline. No answers yet though!
