Incidentally, local friends: if you haven't seen the Science Center's exhibit on Pompeii, definitely go. It's extremely well done, and (despite the levity in the photo of my daughter) very moving.

Today I'm putting together a list of stuff we need for my youngest as we prepare for him to leave for college. I have lots of feelings, of course, but I ran across this picture of his second grade science notebook. We are sending him into the world equipped with the important stuff, at least.

Today's minor victory was a successful mod of my work backpack. I hated how schlumpy it has become over the years and bought plastic to slide into the side fabric to give it more shape. The fact that it worked makes me want to mod all the things now.
