First month of this project is going well so far. Only behind by one film. Lots of bangers. Only one 2026 release though.

A ★★★½ review of Dead Man's Wire (2025)
Some strong performances here (I literally didn't even recognize Cary Elwes), and some awesome needle drops. At times I felt the pace lagged a little, and I found the ending pretty unsatisfying (thoug...

I don't share all of my Letterboxd reviews, but since this one is lucky number 13 of the year so far and also a particularly weird film I thought some of you might find it interesting.

A ★★½ review of Vampyr (1932)
What an extremely bizarre film. I'm not even sure how to properly judge the quality of this one, for a lot of reasons. First, because it's so experimental and unlike everything I've ever seen. Second,...

The woman these fascist stormtroopers murdered was literally a Christian missionary and the mother of a small child and had the last name Good. If this happened in a movie I would call the villainy so over-the-top it would be laughable. I'm not laughing though, because it's real life.

In 1957's Path of Glory, Kirk Douglas' character Col. Dax is in command of the mission to take "The Anthill." Almost sixty years later, Douglas' son Michael is cast as Hank Pym in the Ant-Man movies. Coincidence? I think not.

A ★★★★½ review of Paths of Glory (1957)
What a stunning film. Probably a stronger anti-war message than Kubrick's later and more well-known Full Metal Jacket. Kirk Douglas is magnificent, as are Adolph Menjou and George Macready (who might ...

This might be a weird take, but I just watched Wake Up Dead Man, and I think Bridgett Everett—an actor who I previously have never heard of—will be considered one of the best film performances of the year for a five minute scene that is almost entirely audio.

Hey nerds! It's close to the end of the semester in my History of Superheroes class, which means it's about time to decide what new-ish superhero comic to assign my students to reflect the best/most important/most influential work happening today. Would love to hear some suggestions from folks!

I loved the pilot of It: Welcome to Derry, but for me the most horrific thing that happened was when the one kid's dad threw a copy of the original Flash of Two Worlds comic across the room.

Saw a trailer for Hamnet today, and it looks good and I'm going to see it, but there was a detail that really bugged me. In the trailer, we see Hamnet quoting Macbeth. Hamnet died in 1596, and most scholars believe Macbeth wasn't written until 1603.

My first piece of useless pop culture paraphernalia in the new place. He came with so many chains I couldn't figure out how to get them on him! The long chain is supposed to connect to his hands somehow but I couldn't get them to fit.

If that was the case then the smart move would have been to go and get it covered up or lasered off as soon as he sobered up, but instead he waited until there was an outcry. He might not actually be a Nazi, but he clearly didn't think it was a big deal and that's disqualifying enough.

When I was a teenager (and already sexually active), my mother said "You know the deal, right? I just have to say two things: always keep it covered, and never do it on my bed." Words to live by.

I'm seeing Jonathan Coulton in concert tonight so I'm listening to his Spotify playlist, and Still Alive came on, and I realized that I never finished the first Portal and I never even played the sequel. I have a Switch 2 and a PS5, does anyone know if those games are available for one of them?
