I woke to the news that my old roommate died. I saw her over the summer and last texted w/her 6 wks ago. It's not my place to conjecture the cause unless her family says so. We were not the best roommates towards the end, but we stayed good friends. She was a real nerd, and I will miss her dearly.

On my first train home, I saw an ad for "The Ideal School of Manhattan." I didn't get close enough to confirm, but it sure looked like all the children in the photo were "White." Perhaps I just had snow on my mind. Ms. Devos, Ms. McMahon: call on line 1.

My estranged "parent" (n.b. quotes) was dropped by her children, her parents, her sister, her oldest friends and no doubt others of which I'm unaware. Sometimes the dysfunction becomes so profound that they all but self-select out of society. Ironically, my OTHER parent still grants her audience.

When I started at this job there was a diminutive woman who my sister would spy on the bus in her uniform, grinning madly and sometimes talking to herself. She has long since retired, and now that I've been here this long I realize that disassociation might be the sanest coping strategy for the job.

I had a #dream about a sequel to BACK TO THE FUTURE that had nothing to do with time travel, but instead Doc Brown & Marty McFly were on the run from the FBI & CPS w/a cloned baby, weaving across the U.S./Mexico border. Before I woke I realized the baby was Freddie, son of Dr. Frasier Crane.

Not paying att'n, I put my phone into my tight pants pocket w/the kickstand open, breaking the hinge. The kickstand still actually functions as intended, but won't stay closed when not in use. I do believe my provider can fix it, but they're almost surely closed today, & I won't have time til Mon. 😤

I learned yesterday that my college advisor passed away. I hadn't seen him in 27 years: the last time we had any communication was when we found one another on LinkedIn ~15 years ago. He was not the best advisor when it came to my studies, but he was warm. He was also a survivor of The Holocaust.
