Also consider - if you're sicker, or more likely to escalate, you're probably going to need care in a tertiary hospital anyway. We've got the same carousel in SK as AB with rurals; one ED closes and it just dominoes back through the system. And sometimes you get sent down the road & it's closed too

I work in an ER. I don’t know if people realize how miserable it is to wait for over a day lying on a 2-inch mattress covering a steel slab while you’re already in agony. It also means no one else can be seen in that emergency bay. If half the ER is clogged up with admits, no one gets seen

They've already ensured RAH isn't operating at full capacity. Then removed its trauma centre status... which has made the UAH busier. It seems telling there's so many more LWBS at Edmonton hospitals. That definitely reflects the consistently longer wait times (despite the efforts to decrease)
