Oh how my heart is happy. Today I saw a kingfisher on my run. I cant tell you how many miles I've peered down waterways, only rarely catching flashes of blue. And here one was, on my running route. It darted off before I could focus my phone. So just a snatched photo taken with trembly fingers.

Benfleet to Shoeburyness 13.5 miles. A short walk but a landmark day. 🎉 After around 200 miles of estuary paths, first the Medway, then the Thames, we found the sea again. The first part, from Benfleet was on top of sea defences again. Deep ravines of mud welcoming the cry of curlews.

Plotting coast path walks is a very pleasant way to procrastinate. Will soon be at the mercy of ferry timetables (resuming April 1!) and bus timetables once more.

Genuinely scary bike ride this morning. Glazed roads, bloody hell. Even the Priority 1 roads had huge ice patches on them. Decided Im ready for Spring.

The Met Office are retiring WOW? 😭 Why?! Its an incredibly useful service. It allows personal weather station users of all types to connect together. I frequently use it to see what is happening to other stations in my area.

Canvey Island coastpath loop. 15 miles. The wind blew hard across the marshes as we set off from Benfleet. With subzero temperatures and the windchill several degrees below, we had wrapped up warm, but the wind found every gap in our clothing. Brrrr.

One final walk of the year (and a tiny one). This time one with the London LDWA. A square walk to end a square year. With a small sprint up and down Norbiton station I recorded exactly 25km. And we sort of walked in a square.

It was a little hard to persuade myself to go out for my 9 mile run on this bleak grey day. But while lost in tunnels of gorse, I caught a glimpse of a flock of siskins, chittering around the spiky bushes. And then found the local ponies grazing the land quietly. All was worth it. #ukrunchat
