I was at IBM (not payrolled) for the last round of this, 2012ish. IBM would simply not let graduates do anything interesting and had no idea how to deal with even conversations about that never mind backlash. They all left and went to the Big Four.

I assume one of the reasons Thames Water hasn't just been taken into ownership immediately is because all the cash they do actually have is *customer cash taken in advance when it should not be*, which the government would have to fix on day one, whereas a commercial buyer would not.

Had a 30 min online chat with Thames Water to try and get constant insane over-estimates down a bit. Nothing could be done, apparently. So I cancelled Direct Debit. This resulted in them recalculating the balance, skipping a month entirely, and halving the payment. Might as well not have called.
