As former Supreme Court judge, Lord Sumption, has helpfully pointed out today, while organisations are now legally able to exclude trans women and men from single-sex spaces (in the context of sport, clubs, changing rooms, and bathrooms, etc etc) they are NOT legally required to do so.

Today, in class, I was discussing ‘free speech’ and and we were exploring the relationship between censorship and the electrification of speech. I gave a few cultural examples, one of which was the banning of the Sex Pistol’s God Save the Queen in 1977. Only one student had heard of the SP. 😞

The next lecture on the tour will be at David Bowie Festival in Dublin on Friday 28 Feb. PS. While death is the theme, the lecture will be uplifting, joyful even. Most festival events charge but this lecture is free so, if you’re in Dublin, come along and say hi. Everyone says hi. x
