New PB for Cactus Canyon! Finally got that table down. Crazy how much better I am at pinball just having the pinone controller instead of a gamepad. It feels way more real but more than that, the buttons are a lot easier to feather the flippers with than like, shoulder buttons ever were.

it's kinda funny how much harder it is doing UVs and texturing low texel density meshes compared to high-res stuff. Slapping down a stack of megascan layers and painting some masks is easier than making sure your UVs are pixel-perfect and hand painting details when every little pixel is so huge.

Made a kirby ball decal for VPX too! First you set your ball decal to kirby Then you set the ball image to black Disable ball lighting And presto, it's Kirby!

I have made a discovery

Couldn't find any glo-ball style ball images for VPX, so I turned a macro shot of a pinball on my desk into some glo ball-style textures for VPX. All the neon ones look best if you disable ball lighting! #pinball

Got a basic website up for my new game, Poisoned Gravity! sumac.neocities.org Learning a little tiny bit about CSS and doing some really basic palette stuff. Gonna be posting regular updates on here going forward.

Doing some test runs with a few local CSAs and similar stuff over the next few weeks. We've been rly good at keeping grocery costs low the last few years by shifting to more and more of our diet to from-scratch stuff, and this seems like a way to get even more out of it.

Made a quick cooler for my game while Dwarf Fortress created a new world. Very excited to try out the dino update that just dropped! Really feel like I found a good workflow for texturing now, Texelizer was the missing piece. Getting my texture time down to a reasonable amount per mesh now.

Trying out Texelizer on one of my older meshes for this project. Pretty cool how cohesive it can look for very little time investment! Baked AO and Curviture masks w/ manual adjustments, some palette color fill, smoothed noise for variation and it's pretty decent! Really good texture paint tool!

Wife got me a pin one mini, should be here next week! 💜 That'll probably extend my yearly pinball mania by another month!

I don't regret learning unreal, I'm still comfortable using UE5 for my current project and possibly more in the future, but I'm def thinking of going back to Godot. I think Unreal accelerated my understanding of stuff like profiling and optimization - stuff that I can take to other engines easily.

looking for some new tables since it's been a couple years since my last deep dive into visual pinball, and it's a real bummer seeing so many tables get ai-gen "remastered" artwork! Like half the fun is playing a recreation of the real thing! I didn't need AI-gen Stern art on a 1989 robocop table

updated Visual Pinball and now the DMD won't rotate or stay on top of the screen, but I found a pretty nice workaround! It's always so fun playing a version of the rollercoaster tycoon table that doesn't have pooched flippers like the last two times we went to to the pinball hall of fame
