I think I'm liking REAPER enough to migrate officially. Only complaint so far is it's tricky to program in polyphonic aftertouch, which is needed for cymbal chokes. It's doable but you can only see it in the raw MIDI commands

The coders of this game had to made this project using Micro$oft Windoze, and the fucking instablity of Explorer. They also had to code on COMPAK bulshit computers.

Okay so I made it switch to n-body newtonian physics a bit back from the SOI change to smooth it out. the Moon's gravitational pull is pretty significant even outside its SOI! That's why patched conics kinda suck for this situation

Cool I can get the state vector out of the orbital parameters now! It didn't fix the (correctable?) error though

I appreciate how confident they are in my abilities

Alright I think I've got my little orbital sim figured out. I'm getting a lot of error from the original shortcut I made of using "world space" coordinates for some calculations. But I've got it working more or less consistently and I can work on tackling that next

I think I got it - it's off by a little bit, but it's off by the same amount no matter the velocity/entry angle. I thought I'd be a little more pleased but now I have to do it in the other direction (from the small SOI to the larger) and also integrate it into the game logic

Well my conics sim is getting really close, like tantalizingly close to the newtonian sim, close enough that I can't tell which one is closer to reality. about to say it's good enough for what I need but I would really like to know which one is better

I found another paper on patched conics I’m really eager to try tonight. It has some equations I’ve seen before, but used differently, and a couple I haven’t. It looks like it’s explained better too. Hope it works!!

The problem with the orbital mechanics text I’m working from is, the part about converting between state vector and orbital parameters doesn’t say how to go from the latter to the former. It just says “don’t worry about it it’s too hard. Here’s a Python module”

Well, I compiled my own Godot engine w/ double precision vectors and I’m still getting strange behavior when propagating orbits from one SOI to the next. But, I’m narrowing it down at least. For one thing I was using an incorrect state vector for the Moon. Fixing that will be a task though
