My mother’s film seems sadly relevant these days. A US citizen, she fled Chile in 1973; too many friends were “disappeared” 😔

I wrote about Yglesias “defending liberalism” by joining a right wing moral panic over critical race theory. His vision of liberalism has room for bigots, but no room for scholars concerned about structural racism.

So it hasn't improved efficiency, isn't used to create actual content, and is used to "flesh out" PowerPoint presentations and generate placeholder text. ...In other words it's used to placate the CEOs who think everyone neeeeeeds to use AI by throwing it into a few slides? Sounds about right.

It's the way tech works now: Companies are paid to implement some bullshit that no one wants and designs it so it is unavoidable and then uses facetious number of users to justify doing it more/get more money from investors

ICE and CBP, among others, have violently retaliated against ICE Watch in part because the agencies correctly understand what many do not: Organized neighbors are mounting an effective defense, and an organized movement is a formidable adversary. My new feature:

Solar/wind power is objectively better on every level—including price, hence even OPEC countries investing in it for their own energy needs—but for reasons best described as "fanaticism," Silicon Valley is hostile to it, even as limited & overpriced electricity drains the blood from their AI dreams.

What's ominous is all of the trusted women of color who know a lot about AI are saying that a crash is on the way and the white guys are pretending they are taking it to the moon. This means that a crash is definitely on its way.

Keep an eye out! As AI winds down while VC money runs out, they're going to continue following the same failed playbook Web3 used. They'll redirect the focus from big money (companies, entrepreneurs) to marginalized communities. Prepare to see AI re-spun as a tool to empower women/POC/LGBT.

To be clear, I think "machine learning" is as anthropomorphic as "artificial intelligence". Learning and intelligence perform the same role, they imply uniquely biological or psychological capacities to the machine or artifact through their use in the phrase. See table 1:
