If you are a Councillor, please watch this. It happened nearly 50 years ago in the Netherlands. The arguments against restricting traffic were the same as those made today and were proven to be wrong. Many cities would greatly benefit from a circulation plan.

EU’s energy crisis response is broader than expected: remote work mandates, heat pump subsidies, EV leasing schemes — plus electrification targets and new laws to tax electricity below fossil fuels.

Science funding policy Science offers great benefits, but to get it you want to fund basic science as widely as you can, stably, not only "commercialise". You can later *add* support for focus topics, not at the expense of basic research. This outlines similar concerns I have previously, 1/3

We can create this in Aotearoa; if we made walking, cycling and PT easy/convenient, and getting around by cars harder in our cities.

So these are the kinds of streets in the neighbourhood of my Airbnb, and I just adore them …open right onto the street, gardens & patios in back, everything is so quiet, you can hear bicycles come by, cars are slow & hella infrequent so make very little noise. I can walk in the street easily.

This Stuff story doesn't mention Westmere's street makeover but the video gives a glimpse: two kids galloping joyfully over a new crossing at the formerly hostile intersection. Burying the lede: new bike lanes etc didn't "destroy" this village – quite the opposite! 🥰

A nice story about a local "village" that's much more walkable (and more easily and safely accessible by bike from neighbouring burbs) thanks to some recent street upgrades.* *which the article doesn't mention, but which are clearly playing a role in the resurgence:

The Trust in News survey shows trust is up slightly, with one cause being AI slop leading people back to trusted news sources. Also people don't like AI-produced journalism. Of course NZME and Stuff are using AI right now. So they can't really crow about the results.
