That's cool. The Deepway Star electric semi for Foodstuffs NZ has arrived. If diesel runs out or gets too expensive, this truck will soldier on with food deliveries. This is the sort of thing we need during an oil crisis.

Was at BYD Newmarket yesterday filming Friday's video & I spoke to a guy looking to buy an EV. Turns out he owns an HSV Clubsport that he loves, but it'll be just for weekend use now. That's what it's all about. Carbon-offset the gas car and use it for weekend treats while you daily drive the EV. 👍

I'm not upset that this anti-EV troll is 'sealioning'. I'm upset that he's doing it wrong. 😄

The Toyota BZ4X has been refreshed with more range. In short, the "Pure" spec has 591 km WLTP range for $56,990. That's $16k less than the previous model and they're supposedly arriving to dealerships now. Very happy to see a really decent EV offering from Toyota at last. Tows 1.5 tonnes too.

Electric cars don't work. They need new batteries every 3 years. They can't go off-road, bla bla bla. Here are the wheels of the Curiosity rover. It's been driving around the surface of Mars for almost fourteen years now on its original battery. Zero warjuice. Zero servicing. Just saying...

Pushed the Leaflet a bit, clocking up 777 km since yesterday doing errands. Not bad for an old EV. Still got plenty of life left in it.

This kiwi car dealer only sells electric cars and all their inventory is gone. Never seen that before.

We weighed the Austin Allegro battery out of curiosity. Turns out this 21 KWh battery pack weighs just 97 kg (214 lbs). Quite impressive.

Good news! The batteries fit into the aluminium 'taco' we had fabricated. Next step: trimming, nipping and tucking, then mounting begins. The world's first electric Austin Allegro will be driving down New Zealand roads before you know it. No petrol needed. 😁

That's better. Scrubbed everything twice. Even the seat belt was brown and grimy. Still need to do the seats and carpet but my $1000 Leaf is looking pretty clean now. 🧽 I honestly love this thing. It's so cheap & plucky.

According to the Herald, this fire in Auckland today is believed to have been started by a high performance combustion vehicle which self-ignited and was unable to be put out. NZ Fire have since suppressed the fire, thankfully. Huge Respect to our underfunded fire crews out there keeping us safe.

Kiwis are doing it but are there any bargains left? Can you still get a cheap EV? Two weeks ago you could still buy a Leaf for $3k but now that everyone's ditching petrol & diesel, even the cheapest Leaf from a million years ago is now $7k! 😮 It's crazy becauseFacebook told me that no one buys EVs.

Just checked out a couple of well known EV car yards and holy spuds their inventory is GONE. One dealership has SEVEN electric cars left. That's literally all they have left to offer. I've never seen that before in my life.

This new electric car from China has a fridge, massaging everything, 510 km of range AND lie flat seats. This means you could possibly do a Police Academy and drive from the back seat. 😂 It's called the Aion V and at $48k (28k USD) it's not bad value. Video review coming soon.

Man, I was right on the money with this prediction. I'll do the lotto numbers next, don't worry. 😂 Spoke to a few car dealers/importers over the last few days and they are selling electric cars like never before. There are still a few good priced ones left, new and used, but they're running out.

Servos in Oz are running dry with panic buying faster than tankers can keep up. If it happens here it could be a great opportunity to pool our EV resources together and organise mass carpooling. May be a fun way to find a positive out of all this gloom. Just be warned: my in-car music is Gen X. 😅

Someone suggested to me last week that if petrol & diesel run out and EVs are the only cars moving, the government might punish EV drivers and even ban them from driving. Honestly, I can't see that happening. The country and the economy need people/things/potatoes moved. I hope...
