In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services. Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt. While Norway still owns everything and has the equivilant of £10tn. That's how privatisation 'works'.

Defra tends to support business rather than the environment when there is a choice. Hence, perhaps, wanting tax-payers' money for woodland creation via planting to go to tree growers when the same money would support much greater woodland creation if by natural regeneration.

This is a major drag on woodland creation. Vast areas could be opened up for woodland creation if we trusted in natural processes and didn't arrange to send taxpayers money straight back to business (eg tree nurseries). The area could be huge and the cost actually negligible, maybe a bit of fencing.
