New figures from Scotland show that deaths linked to dementia have reached their highest level on record, now accounting for around one in ten lives lost. The rise reflects an ageing population, with most deaths occurring among people over 80 and nearly two-thirds happening in care homes.

In October, BRACE partnered with Oakland Care on the launch of the UK’s first dementia-friendly community restaurant at their Hyllden Heights care home in Kent. Proceeds from the restaurant's opening night were donated to BRACE! A huge thank you to Oakland Care for their support.

A new Alzheimer's blood test has shown 95% accuracy in detecting early symptoms, according to recent research. The blood test identifies two proteins—amyloid beta 42/40 and p-tau21 which are linked to the disease. Blood tests for Alzheimer’s are not currently available in the UK/NHS.

The US Food and Drug Administration has cleared the first blood test to diagnose Alzheimer's disease. The NHS is currently studying the use of blood tests to diagnose dementia. This could mean blood tests are available for diagnosing dementia in the UK by 2029.
