A gentle reminder to SAVE while you are editing your manuscripts. I had a small panic attack last night after I'd been line editing a client manuscript for an hour and my laptop went full Pink Screen of Death. Luckily I was able to recover the work, but OMG that was stressful.

Looks like the copy of BETTER NATE THAN EVER that I donated to my daughter's old elementary school is flagged for being "sexually explicit." There's nothing sexually explicit about wanting to star in E.T. The Musical on Broadway. The idea that a kid being queer is explicit is absurd.

good morning friends my first book, ONE OF THE BOYS, is on the publisher’s weekly Best Books of 2025 list :)

Again, there is nothing controversial in @sassinsf.com's MG books! Just positive representation of queer kids! QUEER KIDS ARE NOT CONTROVERSIAL OR POLITICAL. This list includes so many award winning books, as well as things like Elmo teaching kids about Covid. ABSURD. Ashamed of my home state.

Cool cool cool, I guess it had to happen sometime. My book Just Shy of Ordinary has been slated for removal (aka is being banned) from a Texas library, along with other titles centering diverse characters. Not surprising, just disappointing.

I want to just shout out that libraries are amazing in so many ways. I usually work 3-4 days a week from branches of my local libraries. Free wifi & instant access to comp titles? Love it! Printers? YES. My favorite branch offers study rooms that I reserve to take calls with clients and editors.

Reason number one million to support your local library? Cool exhibits like this Walk Through the Solar System installation up for the day at my local public library! You know how much I love space so it was great to take a break from working to travel through space.

This has been such a fun work day. Sent edits on a fantastic YA thriller, finalized notes on an absolutely HILARIOUS illustrated middle grade project, made final line edits on an adorable PB dummy, had a client strategy call, and now I get to build multiple sub lists for all of those projects! LOVE.

The AI grift has been hitting my job, so many so eager for a magic solution that makes things easier, faster, better, cheaper, smarter. But the cost will shift to our environment, the human labor of checking and fixing LLM mistakes, and the sanity of those who have standards and pride in their work.

(Also, @thejordache.bsky.social made me an agented author 7 years ago today - yes, my book released exactly 2 years after I signed with her to the day 😁)

On a happier note, Ana on the Edge made me a published author 5 years ago today. No matter how many places it gets challenged or banned, it’s still finding the readers who need it, and I have so many teachers, educators, parents, etc to thank for that 🩵

I must point out that @sassinsf.com's author's note at the end of ANA ON THE EDGE is worth the read and masterfully discusses the nuances of gender identity. I've given that book to multiple adults who have questions about trans kids' experiences specifically so they can read that author's note.

There is nothing remotely "controversial" in @sassinsf.com's ANA ON THE EDGE. Just a 12yo navigating the world of competitive ice skating and exploring gender. It's a beautiful read. I'm proud to have worked with A.J. on it. Horrific that a teacher would be put on leave simply for shelving the book.

I've read two of the books in this case, @sassinsf.com's ANA ON THE EDGE and @kylelukoff.bsky.social's TOO BRIGHT TO SEE, and they are so, so good. Some kids will really relate to them, and other kids will learn what it's like to be a person like the character in the book. All good. Right?

Ana on the Edge is about a 12 year old ice skater navigating being nonbinary in a gendered sport. The fact that it's considered controversial enough to reprimand and put a teacher on leave over simply having it in her classroom library is incomprehensible to me.
