Pro tip: If you are attending a rally or action, wear a N95 mask & bring extras to give to others. High quality masks can serve triple-duty: they prevent you and others from getting sick from airborne viruses, they keep your face warm in the freezing cold, & they can protect against surveillance.

genuine question: if you wore a mask in, at the very least, public indoor spaces 2020-22, but don’t during this record breaking flu season, why?

Pro tip: If you are attending a crowded event in winter, wearing a well-fitting mask like an N95 can serve double duty by keeping your face warm and keeping viruses away. (yes, transmission can still happen outdoors in crowds or with close and sustained contact to someone who is sick).

Unmitigated illness is a tool used by fascists to eliminate the groups of people they hate & have deprived of resources, while making money off those who can afford to play the pay-to-win game of for-profit healthcare. Excellent public health messaging from New York City!! Be the happy peace sign waving emoji instead of the sick and sniffling emoji. How can you do that? Wear a mask! Ideally a respirator like an N95. It’ll help keep you and your community safe.

the idea of encouraging people to mask feels like an individual band-aid on a systemic problem—and guess what, it is. the key difference is that without using masks as a stop-gap while the systemic solutions are obtained, lots of people—maybe even you—become disabled & die.
