There's a lot of the usual doom in Apple's news this week. I made light of it being a bit absurd in the title for the AppleInsider Podcast, but bad Apple news does seem to make the world go round. Or...

After years of ads mocking iPhones and Pixel still being an incredibly niche device almost no one buys, you'd think they'd shift their strategy. Maybe try making a device that actually draws customers away from iPhone. Too bad. Pixel is a nice piece of hardware. But there's no saving Android vs iOS

I tried to weed out my Mastodon feed of cross posts from people that are primarily active here and I got through six accounts before it timed out and said too many requests. Yep, Mastodon doing great.

Oh hey look, I've been on Bluesky for a year and four days. Neat. It's been really fun seeing this place grow and my slow accumulation of followers. I'm only a few away from 2k! I believe I made the right choice in prioritizing Bluesky over Mastodon.

I don't care who you are, if you start a comment, IRL or on the internet, with "According to ChatGPT" you've lost all credibility with me as a person and I can't take you seriously. The conversation is effectively over. Don't be so blatantly ignorant.

As a podcaster, you always wonder "is this someone's first episode?" And this has to be an all-timer. I listened to Kinda Funny religiously from its start, having followed team from their Beyond days. My focus on tech had me fall off sadly. This was the first one I listened to since 2019.π€£

There doesn't need to be a loser in this post-Twitter era. I believe Mastodon can serve niche communities and Bluesky can be the global platform. That said, something tells me Mastodon isn't going to make it.

Three hours to render a single frame of Toy Story and A Bugs Life, but jump to today and you can run around a 4K rendering of Andy's Room in Kingdom Hearts 3. Wild to think video games have already surpassed the dream of "Pixar level" graphics.

These "Apple employee leaves Apple" stories are odd. I don't remember them being a thing until the past year. We know nothing about what the person was doing, if this was planned in advance, who replaced them, or if the team is hobbled by the move. Just a tipster with an axe to grind.

As a fan of Kingdom Hearts since I saw that first insane ad on Disney Channel, this is an excellent show. Even if you're a casual fan or interested in getting into the series, these guys do a great job demystifying the cannon. Full spoilers right off btw.

Apple TV's Extrapolations had an entire B story about a man who had to delete his literal memories because he ran out of iCloud storage. This is on that level of fucked.

Just randomly thinking about how
@zcichy.bsky.social

Tesla adding CarPlay after years of playing the superiority game is the surest sign that their vehicles have hit rock bottom. And the average demo buying iPhones are definitely not the ones buying Tesla (today).

I keep talking about the line between bare minimum capitulation (Apple) and full on subservience (Google, Meta) and this is a great example. It's all gross, Apple removing apps without any pushback, but Google actively hosting this even though it clearly endangers people, now that's just evil.

This is really cool, and I know how such a thing would be coordinated on a carrier and it would have been a big deal for the crew. Can't wait to check it out. I've been topside and watched jets being launched, so I wonder how this experience compares.

There's several levels of dumb here. First, there is a chance Apple never intended to release an iPhone Air in 2026. Second, most evidence points to iPhone Air being quite popular, especially in China. Third, the report itself is quite contradictory. So why are so many quick to just repeat as fact?

Saw a bunch of posts wondering how the App Store logo works (is it just sticks??), so I made a little 3D printed visualization of the 3 tilted app icons that come together to make it, it's really quite clever! Makes for a fun desk ornament too βΊοΈ

I know, pennies add up, but should we not just round at this point? If you round based on it being 5 and below or 6 and up, it should just even out over time, right? As a customer, I couldn't care less about 4 cents.

This really seems to be the biggest issue with cases that offer this. You need a loop to attach the strap to, so unless Apple figures out something clever with magnets, this will never be elegant as a solution. Though, I am curious about this trend of wearing your iPhone.

I approach my tech reporting the way I do in general in life: be the positivity you want to see in the world. Being critical is its own love language when used correctly, but being negative for the sake of being negative will slowly hollow out your soul.

My M5 Apple Vision Pro review has been published. It's excellent hardware that was absolutely needed, but nothing really matters if developers don't bother supporting the platform. Apple needs to do whatever it can to bring developers to the platform. Even if it's straight up paying them.
