1. All credit to Hannah Spencer for listening to ordinary voters. 2. Brexit has proven once again to be the green kryptonite of UK politics but Starmer doesn't get it. He cannot claim to be taking the fight to Reform while embracing Farage's brainchild.

NEW There's no overstating how significant the Nathan Gill case is. On Friday, the close associate of Nigel Farage was jailed for over 10 years for taking bribes ultimately from a friend of Putin. It's a complex, detail-heavy story that raises questions about Farageâs claim Gill was âone bad appleâđ§”

Not once have we had a government which is willing to openly state the benefits of immigration to our society and our economy, the way that diversity has made us a wealthier and culturally richer country. Not once. And yet we're constantly told that we've been living in an experiment of no borders.

UK governments always look for a sweet spot in immigration policy- tough enough to win votes, not so tough as to hurt the economy - but always find the opposite- clumsy enough to damage business, not enough to impress Reformesque immigration-phobes. so depressing.

Periodic reminder that there is nothing you can give the far right that will satisfy them. Remove a right, theyâll go after another. Attack a minority, theyâll want worse attacks and find new groups to attack. Thereâs no end to the authoritarianism. Just more, and worse, until everyoneâs crushed.

There's nothing you can do to 'support' or 'bolster'; you can offer subsidies, but you have to tax to finance them, which we all pay for. All you can do is lower trade barriers with other countries than the US.
