my go-to example for this is that Katniss DID love Peeta! that’s what we’re shown! you didn’t buy it bc it wasn’t written well & when you look into it you learn that suzanne collins never planned for romance in the novel, her editor pushed her to include it and that’s probably why it feels that way

whenever this debate comes up people interpret this point as claiming that the character shouldn’t feel like real people to you but the point is that meaningful discussion about the text happens when you’re talking about their actions without judging them like you would with a real person
