Today marks the anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark Supreme Court decision affirming the freedom to marry the person you love. We celebrate this historic victory and remain committed to defending LGBTQ+ rights and standing against extremist attacks on those freedoms. 🏳️‍🌈♥️

This Gun Violence Awareness Month, we remember the lives taken by gun violence and stand with the families and communities forever changed by it. I remain committed to advancing solutions that keep our communities safe and prevent more heartbreak.

This cruel decision puts hundreds of thousands of vetted, long-settled people at risk of detention and deportation, tearing mixed-status families apart. Congress must act now to protect TPS holders and provide a clear pathway to citizenship.

Trump abruptly canceled the signing of a bipartisan, bicameral bill that would make housing more affordable. This was a major win for the American people, but the President has decided to hold it hostage until his bill to destroy democracy is passed.

10 years ago, 49 lives were tragically taken in an act of hatred at the Pulse Nightclub. Today, we remember them and recommit ourselves to building a world where everyone can be true to themselves and live without fear of hatred and violence.

Inflation keeps rising. Higher gas and electricity prices are forcing people to make hard choices. And instead of helping families get some relief, Trump just signed a package giving $70 billion more to ICE and CBP.

I was proud to stand this morning in support of Chicago Public Schools, our educators, and our students. It’s shameful that they are under attack by the Trump administration and Republicans, for implementing policies that parents and students have demanded.

Last night, Senate Republicans voted to give ICE and CBP another blank check for brutality and cruelty. Taxpayer dollars should go toward helping families get ahead, not terrorizing our communities. I will be voting no.

Today SCOTUS has heard arguments in a case that could determine whether citizens born in the United States are lawful citizens. But the 14th Amendment is clear: birthright citizenship is a constitutional right. SCOTUS must uphold it!

Birthright citizenship is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Trump and Miller are trying to end it by relying on the arguments of white supremacists. Fitting for them.

I voted no on the short-term DHS funding bill. My position has been clear: I will not vote for another cent for immigration enforcement agencies as they continue to terrorize our communities. ICE and CBP must be reined in, DHS dismantled, and the immigration system rebuilt.

My statement on the Trump administration's denial of a major disaster declaration for Illinois:

DHS has long been a failed agency, and its extreme abuses are nothing new. I’ve been sounding the alarm for years under both Republican and Democratic administrations.  That’s why we need the Melt ICE Act to end ICE’s detention-industrial complex – and why we must dismantle DHS.

This is blatant racism from the president of the United States. It is disgusting, it is dangerous, and it must be taken down. Republicans must join us in denouncing this behavior instead of excusing it.

DHS is a failed rogue agency that for years has been terrorizing and abusing our neighbors. It’s long time we rein it in. I was proud to join colleagues and advocates in support of the Melt ICE Act.

ICE has terrorized my community and communities nationwide—deploying tear gas, beating neighbors, and instilling fear. Enough is enough! It’s time to end DHS funding and hold everyone accountable. Anything less is a betrayal to our communities, the Constitution, and democracy.
