Lots of fun with Wester Hailes High School students this afternoon. Together we gritted the greenway path and bridge over the canal to make it safer for the older folks getting to Michael’s and the bus stops. Also for the Canal View pupils.

Good to be back with the hardy troops at the Greenway garden this morning. Tidying the sheds, the garden, and we gritted the local paths near the garden and Michael’s shop.

Spent the last Greenway Garden session of the year with our crew, volunteers, new volunteers, WHHS students, out talking with everyone we could about the plans for the new playpark & community micro hub. Busy year ahead. Thanks to everyone who’s helped, encouraged, & supported everyone this year. 🙏🏻

Fun morning at the Sunflower Pantry with Clovie Community Garden and others making some outstanding free Xmas wreaths this year. We’ve given one to The Health Agency for the raffle at the Xmas fair on Thursday. 👍 Tomorrow we hit the Greenway Garden for another session!

Clovie Garden white currants got some TLC now the rain has stopped. Cut out the dead wood and trimmed and opened up the centre for good healthy growth next year.

As part of ‘World of Work Week’ our head gardener Alan spent the afternoon with four primary classes at Canal View talking about his job, his life, meta-skills, and career path to date. Alan really enjoyed engaging with the pupils who asked so many great questions he could have stayed all day. ❤️

Up at Canal View primary with the crew this morning fitting a polytunnel sliding door system to one after the last storm had damaged the old hinged doors. 👍

Good news we received today is that planning permission has been granted for the development of the community micro-hub next to the Greenway Garden on the Murrayburn side. Thanks to everyone who commented, both positively and those who raised concerns. 🙏 Work now continues on funding the project.

Started the day requesting CEC empty full local bin/remove firework leftovers from greenspace, tidying up beds in the garden, finding potatoes & turnips, and finishing the badger seat

Still lots of flowers bring some late season joy as we start tidying up the Clovie garden for winter. Lots of healthy green veg and we sent some to the Sunflower Pantry this morning.

Starting with the lads today in the Calders Greenshoots garden bringing some improvements over the winter months on a Tuesday. Shed upgrades, water harvesting upgrades, solar harvesting system, storage upgrades and more. Lots to do!

Tom brought us the compost worms and bedding materials to make at home in our new Greenway Garden wormery that Tom and Ricky made reality. We’ll be feeding them regularly and looking forward to some top grade worm compost and tea as they work their magic. 🪱🪱🪱🪱

Out with our trustees engaging directly with children, parents and residents on the greenway path about the new playground we are progressing super quickly now next to the Greenway Garden. Lots of enthusiasm. ❤️

We’re pretty on it in the Greenway Garden going towards winter this year. Compost heaps all turned and sorted, ponds naturalising well, hazels coppiced by Wester Hailes High School students, plenty still growing and some crops coming on in the polytunnel before the sun disappears.
