Another #FindsFriday, we have a lovely Medieval seal matrix, AD 1300-1400. The die depicts a serifed P within two springs of palm foliage and crown above. The use of single letters such as this probably represented the initial of the owner. See the full record: finds.org.uk/database/art...

Time for a #FindsFriday with something different! An incomplete clay pipe with makers mark dating c. 1610-1640. The makers mark can be found on the heel, reading D or C, the initials are divided by a central stem with two leaves above and below. See the record: finds.org.uk/database/art...

Going old school with todays #FindsFriday with a complete early Neolithic flint leaf arrowhead dating. c. 4000-3000BC. The leafshaped arrowhead would be hafted onto the end of a wooden shaft and secured with resin and twine. To see the full record follow the link: finds.org.uk/database/art...

This #ValentinesDay, discover a love token from the past, recorded by the Sussex Finds Liaison Team. From the 15th-17th centuries, lovers exchanged posy rings - gold or silver bands engraved with romantic messages. This 17th C ring, found near Chichester reads: "Hurt not ye ❤️ hoos joy thou art."

This lovely Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl looks so modern, yet it was made over 2,000 years ago! Ancient glassmakers created the tiny flower pattern using a technique now known as ‘millefiori’ (thousand flowers). A timeless design still made by glassmakers today! British Museum 📷 me #Archaeology

This is a late Iron Age harness fitting. MacGregor describes roundel fittings with loops as a "form unique in British Iron Age metalwork but also in Continental chariot burials". Similar fittings were discovered in the Stanwick & Heck Hoard from North Yorkshire. #FindsFriday https://buff.ly/3Br8R9A

For #FindsFriday this week, a Medieval belt hook dating c. 1250-1550. A strap threaded through the loop/slot and the hook allowed secondary objects such as purses to be suspended. This one has a zoomorphic head. Found near Uckfield in East Sussex. Full record link: finds.org.uk/database/art...

This copper alloy arm purse found in the #Roman settlement of Nida (Frankfurt-Heddernheim) was used as a secure method to carry coins. To spend the money, the purse had to be removed from the arm. On display at Archäologisches Museum Frankfurt 🏺 AncientBluesky #archaeology

Excited for the first #FindsFriday now more PAS people are here. This popular type of late 17th/ #18thcentury teaspoon had a twisted stem. Lots break at the weak point. Someone in Sussex looked at the broken piece and had an idea. They trimmed and incised it to make a little face, just for fun. 🏺🗃

A rare (if battered) silver quinarius struck at Rome for the prince Caracalla c.208. This tiny coin of ~1g probably came to Britain in association with the emperor, his sons #Caracalla and #Geta, and the imperial court, all of whom were in Britain for the war in the north c.208-10 #FindsFriday (1/2)

A Golden #FindsFriday, one of my favourite Treasure finds of recent times: An iconographic medieval betrothal finger ring (c.AD1400-1500), with panels featuring St Barbara, St Peter & John the Baptist. Blackletter inscription reads 'p’ attries' - by (our) agreement/consent. Found in Richmondshire

A beautiful #Roman blue glass bowl, recovered during excavations in the city of Nijmegen (Netherlands). Not only is it a very lovely piece of glass, but it was actually found completely intact - not even a crack! - which is remarkable for a piece of 2000 year old glassware! AncientBlueSky
