Need conditioned storage and have a shed? A mini split and a dehumidifier can set you up. I need to install filters on the mini split, but otherwise it’s done. I love Mysa thermostats, they do datalogging. Now we have space where stuff for future projects won’t rot or freeze. #energysky

This right here. Operating costs between gas and electric are usually very similar. Most projects I see are +/-$100/year or less. YMMV of course, but the fat part of the bell curve shows the costs being very comparable. Comparable is the word to use.

Brand really doesn't matter. The engineering is so similar now they are effectively the same. Nearly 100% of results is in install, that is if the correct size and product were specified in the first place. Most products share the same components, such as Copeland compressors.

That’s a bummer. We had ours installed about 5 years ago with propane back up. I’ve only bought propane 1 time during that time and electric barely increased. Ives saved thousands of dollars in propane with minimal increase in electricity. Total win for us.

Deffo no guilt for A/C. It makes a great case for solar power too; days that are hot are often sunny; the hottest part of the day is also the sunniest. So solar PV generation peaks at the same time A/C demand is peaking. Heat pumps reduce demand, solar provides it at just the right time. 🤝

It's not that complicated. As heatwaves get more frequent and severe, people without cooling will face increasing risks of heat-related illness and death. Get two-way ACs (aka heat pumps) to vulnerable people, run them on clean power, use them to displace fossil heat. Save lives and cut emissions.
