Idea: There are now several cooperative games out there focused on energy transition. What if we made one about managed retreat? 2 seconds later: OK mr. positive thinking. So, it'd be a game in which "winning" = mitigating but never actually avoiding destruction and suffering. That's a tough sell.

Whose job is it to conduct and publish the results of a stress test that explores what happens if some key valuations fall in tandem? Someone working at one of the federal reserve banks? Seriously, is this not a thing that falls cleanly within someone's job description?

I don't think enough people have read this -- IMO all of #ClimateSky, #GreenSky, and #EnergySky should, and if they have students should assign it to their students -- so I'm reposting.

If you haven't ever had a conversation with a fire chief about things they think about, worry about, see as hazardous, I encourage you to give it a try. If your experience is like mine, your conversation will leave you wondering how you've managed to survive for as long as you have.

I subscribe to Floodlight News @floodlightnews.org -- just a few $ a month. The scope of their coverage is unique, as far as I can tell. Does the NYT, for instance, have a strong climate desk even tho their editorial staff is a disaster? Sure. Do they cover everything. Absolutely not.

If proponents of energy transition don't figure out how to prevail in such situations then it doesn't happen or it costs multiples more than it has to. I get it -- winning takes a ton of work that isn't glorious or remunerative. But @jeffsseidman.bsky.social & others have done it. It can be done.

At a soccer tournament for kid #1 There are a LOT of diesel generators I've read about efforts to get mobile batteries into the mix for disaster recovery. Soccer tourneys etc. seem like a good secondary (or primary?) use case for the business model.

My mother in law just got a Copper range (electric oven, induction cooktop, battery-in-the-bottom so no wiring upgrade required). Results: (1) she *loves* it; and (2) the crew that installed her cabinets and the range were impressed (& mildly shocked) that you can just plug it into a wall outlet

I am a moth to the flame of any and all mentions of fear of NYC's subway "Huh. My kids love the subway. Especially my 3yo." "The subway moves millions of people daily. Safest mode of travel. It's a miracle." "See that's how I feel about cars, except people actually die every day bc of cars."

You don't need to care about climate or think energy transition is good for health and wellbeing to recognize that these people are fools. They're ceding technological and economic ground without a fight and all the while proclaiming themselves warriors.

So many of us came so very unwillingly to this place of viewing the Supreme Court as unworthy of being viewed as a judicial body. Unworthy of veneration, unworthy of respect. So profoundly reluctantly. But, good lord have they earned it.

Query for #EnergySky: Anyone know of a review article / mini-history of advances in heat pump technologies since c.2000? I don't just want another discussion of cold climate heat pumps and DOE's Challenge -- I'm looking for something more comprehensive.

I'd love to hear the foremen telling their crews: We are going to do it right and make sure this gets done safely and well. But we're also going to work bloody fast. We need to get this done before those bastards find some other way to try to shut us down.
