If I’m trying to simulate miss distance for pitchers, what are the things I need to consider? Has anyone written this up? I plan on using the pitch type’s mean x/z, with misses having a sd of 12/18 inches and a mean of 0 (two simulations).

The most interesting pitcher from the AFL might just be Jason Ruffcorn. Never heard of him before today. That's 6 distinct pitches, 4 of which were whiff inducers, and a SSW sinker that should manage contact very well. A supinator profile with a decent four seam. Fascinating.

I'm ruminating on how to quantify how much a player is discussed/hyped. At present, I have a vague notion of that based on how often I see names mentioned. Josue De Paula, in my subjective opinion, deserves more chatter. He had 49 walks to 38 strikeouts in A+. Hits the ball REALLY hard.
