CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%. Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

My dad and millions of others went to college for free on the GI Bill… paid for by taxes which built the middle class of the 1950s and 60s. Now the cost of an education is prohibitive to most. If the wealthiest paid a fair share - instead of avoiding taxes so successfully- that could change.
